So it's not official or anything yet, but Ex-S and I have been thinking about possible convention opportunities for the Summer of 2010.

A-kon was a blast....but it's the most expensive con we've been to, and we've gone for three years straight.
What made it so much fun for me personally was that a lot of my con buddies were there, but I don't even know how many of those friends are going to attend A-kon next year. Also, I get to hang out with those people at Animefest and/or Ikkicon, so it wouldn't be too much of a sacrifice to drop A-kon 2010 for another big convention somewhere in the US.

Some of our Summer convention options include a few different California conventions, Otakon in Baltimore, or Metrocon in Florida.
Flying to any of these locations is out of the question. With our wigs and costumes, there's too much of a risk that something might get damaged in the flight.
....So this kinda knocked out California. It would take us at least 2-3 days to drive that far, and I don't think we could afford the gas and hotel costs.
As for Otakon and Metrocon, it would probably just take a one-day drive if we were to go straight through with limited stops for food and gas. However, we would have to pay for an extra night or two at the hotel if we went to Otakon. I do really want to go to Otakon one day, but the chances of affording it is slim at this point in time.

As for Metrocon though....I have family in Florida (not in the same city as the convention, but it'd be a place to stay after the 17 hour drive if we arrived a day or two before the actual convention). We would only have to pay for hotel for 2 nights, and we could spend extra time down at my grandma's and turn the trip into an extended vacation.

Has anyone heard some good feedback about Metrocon or been there themselves? It's looking promising, but I would like to hear more about it first :3
