Frequently asked Questions!

Hello all! :) For a while now it's been really difficult for me to be super active on DA in regards to answering all questions I get via notes and comments.

-If you're curious if I do commissions, I'm sorry to say that I don't take commissions anymore. I work a full time job now, so I just don't have the extra free time that I used to (it's hard enough to get my own personal projects done lol).

-If you have a wig-related question, please just shoot me an email at ArdaCustomers@gmail.com
At Arda-wigs, it's actually part of my job to give advice and wig suggestions to customers, so if you ask me there, I'll be happy to answer you (and pretty quickly!) in comparison to here. It's something I get paid to do, so I'm less inclined to answer the same kind of questions off the clock here, haha. XD

-If you have a non-wig question related to how I did something on a particular costume, lately I've been trying to add all that information into the description of at least one of the photos of that costume. Just browse through some of the different photos until you find it (it's usually in the first or second photo submission of that costume), or you might find a link to the costume construction information via another photo. If you still can't find what you're looking for, feel free to ask via a note.

Uh, not entirely sure when it happened, but this page reached 1 million views!!! Thank you everyone for your support. This summer I had been trying to think of what would be an appropriate way to celebrate the milestone. Since this year also marks my 10th year since I started cosplaying, I decided now might be a great time to work on my dream costume, which is Link's Twilight Princess variant. Over the years I had attempted making his tunic at least twice but wasn't satisfied either time; but now that I've gotten a lot more experience and a larger costume budget to work with, I'm ready to make it happen over this next year.

For those of you that are newcomers, welcome! I'm not too active on here due to real life things keeping me busy, but I do still check my facebook fan page on occasion: www.facebook.com/pages/Malinda…
If you have a question or have been waiting for a response to a question, please look at this post first:  FAQ Post!I don't get online a whole lot these days besides to check my facebook and occasionally put up photos and such on here.
To make things a bit easier for all of us, I'm going to post answers to some of my most frequently asked questions here and leave this on the top of my profile for hopefully everybody to see! XD If you've asked me a question before through a note or a comment, please read below!
Q: Do you take wig commissions?
A: No I do not! D: I occasionally take some here and there, but only from closer friends. Unfortunately I just don't have the time for them. I work a full time job, so I like to spend what free time I have on personal projects and having some relaxation time.
Q: How do I style this wig!? What wig/color should I get?
A: I have a variety of wig styling tutorials both here in my gallery as well as on the Arda-wigs website!
Here are the ones I've done on my own free time: http://malindachan.deviantart.com/gallery/37164049

For those of you waiting for me to post more of my older costumes for sale, it might not be for another month or two. I took up some projects for a few friends that need to be done before Halloween, and it's just been eating up a lot of my free time.

If you've been following my facebook page, you might have seen my announcement about MCM London Comic Con! I'll be attending as a judge for the EuroCosplay Championship finals, and it'll be my first time both in London and at an international convention! I don't know what all will fit into my suitcase, but I know for sure that I'll bring Yusei and one other costume (I'm thinking either Aerith, Cloud, or Aqua).

Again, I apologize for the inactivity; I've been slowly working on some projects both for myself and for friends, and I've also been trying to work at a slower pace since I've had a history of making myself sick with migraines and anxiety from stress. Once I return from London I'll be working on Arwen from Lord of the Rings, my Miqo'te Bard from FFXIV, Jessie from Team Rocket, and Link! I'll be posting progress through my facebook fan page as I go, so be sure to check it out! :3

Phoenix Wright Wig Tutorial
Hey all! Uploading this by popular request, though a lot of it is the same processes I've used in other tutorials. So check these out too!

And this is the video tutorial for hairlines: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KawyKs…

If you have any questions please email me (my Arda email address is at the bottom of the tutorial). I don't get on DA very often, so if you ask in a comment here I might not see it for a long time.

Some Tutorial FAQs:

"Can you do a tutorial for ___(insert character wig I've already styled before)___?"
-It depends on if I took progress photos while I did it. Sometimes I don't because I'm either in a rush or already made a tutorial that used the same techniques. I recommend checking my tutorial folder here or the tutorial tab on the Arda Wigs page for a large variety of tutorials that should hopefully provide some inspiration! Even if a tutorial is for a specific character, the techniques used can be applied to other characters as well.

"Can you do a tutorial for __(insert character wig I haven't styled before)__?"
-I don't do specific character requests, though if there's a type of technique that you haven't seen a tutorial for, feel free to suggest it on my work's Tutorial Suggestion forum: kingdom-arts.org/viewtopic.php…\

Bravely Default: No Pants Club by Malindachan
Bravely Default: No Pants Club
...There's a fun story behind this group. XD

Not long after Bravely Default came out, Johnny suggested the idea of doing a group at Dragoncon. We were going to have all the main 4 characters, and we planned to do some really cool costumes (Such as the Dark Knight armor, Edea's Garb, etc)

Summer con season hit hard though, and we were cos-pooped. I had already started on Edea's wig though and still wanted to do some kind of group if it was possible, so I suggested going with easier costumes. Easiest costumes happened to be THESE, and then suddenly it became a thing. And it's ok that we don't have a Tiz anymore, because he doesn't have a "No Pants" costume.

AND THAT'S HOW THE NO PANTS CLUB HAPPENED

Not going to lie; I haven't felt so self-conscious before. I won't go into details on some of the things I experienced while in this costume, but despite the problems, it was thanks to these friends that I had an amazing Dragoncon. :)

"Bravo Bikini" Edea Lee - Myself www.facebook.com/pages/Malinda…
"Wakoku Warrior" Ringabel - Junkers Cosplay www.facebook.com/JunkersCospla…
"Bravo Bunny" Agnes Oblige - SpacePizzaCosplay www.facebook.com/spacepizzacos…

I styled the wigs for everyone! All materials are from Arda Wigs!

My Edea wig is a Matilda with 2.5 packs of short wefts in Platinum Blonde. I call my antenna the "Pringle" and it's a separate piece I made using stiff felt and the wefts, and it's attached to a wire piece that goes under the hairline of the lace front. I cut a small piece out of the lace front itself so it can stick in far enough for the bottom to line up how I like it. Check out my facebook post here for a picture of it before it was glued in place! I plan to curl the back more once I make another Edea costume. I just ran out of time, and it wasn't my highest priority.

The Ringabel wig was a Jareth in Titanium Blonde, and I added pieces from a defective Cady on the sides so it would be like a lace front. :) I tried to go for a nice balance between the in-game render and the artwork for his style since it's different between the two.

The Agnes wig was a Le Tigre in Dark Brown. I used the render from the opening of the game as a reference.

You can see more images of the wigs on my facebook via this post! www.facebook.com/permalink.php…
If you click on the Edea wig pic, you can also see a progress shot of my "pringle" before it was glued to the wig. :)

Latest update: Sorry I haven't been as active with this! We started moving last weekend and are still in the process of unpacking things and moving the remainder of items over from our old place, so it's been tough to find time to add more listings and make trips to the post office XD. All costumes that have gone up for sale so far have been shipped out, and we'll start adding more costumes for sale hopefully within the next few weeks. :)

(end update)

Hey all! So two things!
One is that I'm moving to a bigger apartment soon! (whoo hoo!)
Second thing is that we've been saving up to FINALLY visit Japan in the Spring! I'll spare you guys the details, but in a nutshell, the move is hurting our savings account a bit more than we anticipated. ;A;

So I'm putting up some of my older costumes for sale! Most of these have only been worn a couple times and are still in great condition. I'm having a real hard time parting with some of them because they took a lot of hard work and have some great memories attached to them, so I do hope you guys check them out and help me find a good home for them!

Items sold so far:

Animefest 2009: Princess Judai by Malindachan Carly Nagisa: Aslla Piscu by Malindachan Yusei Fudo: After Class by Malindachan Yusei Fudo: Poncho by Malindachan A-kon 2009: Judai Yuki by Malindachan Look to the sky by Malindachan   Nakakon 2010: Yusei Fudo 2 by Malindachan Carly Nagisa by Malindachan Deidara cosplay 1 by Malindachan Haou Judai: Confidence by Malindachan Gene and Melfina: Hand in Hand by Malindachan The Hunter of Souls by Malindachan Katsucon 2013: Jack Frost by Malindachan

I will update this journal each evening with more costumes!
I'm sure a lot of you guys want to know what else will be for sale, so here's a list of upcoming sales:
Team Satisfaction Uniform
Undercover!Yusei "Daniel" uniform
Wallmarket Cloud Dress
Halloween Town Sora
Older Aqua wig
Ouran High School uniform

If there's a costume of mine you like that is not listed, please DON'T ask if I will be selling it. I'm still keeping a few of my favorites, and the costumes I plan to wear again soon. :) I've also gotten a lot of comments from fans thinking I will not longer be cosplaying Jaden or Yusei since I've sold a lot of their outfits, but don't worry! I still have my lastest Jaden and Yusei costumes, and I don't plan on retiring them yet! :3

I have pieces from others I will also be selling, though I will list them as I find them in storage.
Many of the costumes listed might not include wigs or pieces that were re-used in other costumes (like boots, pants, or shirts). I will make note of it within the listings when they're posted.

I will warn you guys that I'm pretty tiny, so if you want to buy these costumes to wear the entire thing, they will not fit if you are larger than a small (and all sales are final; no returns)!

She taught herself to style wigs so she could cosplay her favorite overly-spikey-haired YU-GI-OH! characters, and eventually this led to her habit of selecting characters based on who's hair looked the most ridiculous. She learned to sew at a young age, and other than her Jigglypuff costume attempt at age 11, she started making her own costumes in 2004 and actively cosplaying in 2007.

If the item you're ordering is in stock, then it should only take between 1-3 business days to be processed, and then shipping time depends on the type of shipping you select. If there's an item in your order that's out of stock, then you can check our restock list (under the info tab of our site) to see an estimate time frame on when we're expecting more, and then we ship out the backorders as soon as the boxes of restock arrive.

I know you have a spiking wig tutorial, but do you have any tips on how to spike one like Sora's? I'm trying to section the hair at last, but sometimes the sections I make show the...I don't know that it's called, but the lining of the wig, I guess you could call it. I just figured I'd ask since you had styled a wig for Sora before.

What type of wig are you using? The ones that have a more "teased" top are ideal for spiking because the frizziness at the base helps hide the wig's wefting. You could do some backcombing yourself to help with those areas, or if you have the budget you might consider either getting a second wig or additional wefts to add in for more thickness. If you haven't seen my Cloud tutorial, that's a good example of a scenario where I was doing a spiky style, but the type of wig I would have normally used wasn't available in the color I wanted, so I improvised by combining two together.

I actually already styled it since I needed it to be done for AWA. I ended up making the spikes flatter and tried to 'criss-cross' the hair for spikes to hide any holes. It also works for if I were to lay my head back because I don't have a huge spike pointing out, but it looks good! I can upload some photos on here if you'd like to see what I did though.

Hey malinda. When are you going to another convention? I would love to see your videos on YouTube. Your videos are the best. I am your biggest fan ever. I liked it when you dressed up as matt ishida from digimon adventure. That was so cool. Your judai, carly, and yus3i costumes are so cool. Great job

Besides London this weekend, I might not be attending another con until Acen next year. Unless I go to a con for work or as a guest, and in those cases I'll be sure to announce it. :)
The con videos were fun when I had more free time, but it's such a time commitment that I've sorta retired from making them now that I have a full time job and more real-life responsibilities. I'm not retired from making costumes though, so you'll still see new things from me here and on my facebook! :)
