Animefest 2011: Yu Yu Hakusho

I was cosplaying Yukina for maybe an hour? XDD

Plans got a bit hectic at the con and I wasn't able to do much with my Yu Yu group. We originally wanted to do it Friday right after we got to the convention, but there wasn't enough time after we checked in at the hotel and got all our stuff up to the hotel rooms. I literally threw it on as fast as I could on Saturday after the YGO stuff was over so we could get some pictures together before I had to go to skit rehearsal. Next time I'll hopefully have some red lenses and proper makeup as well as Kyle as my Kuwabara <3

I made my kimono, part of the obi, and dickey (the red kimono-like vest thing I'm wearing under the blue kimono) using Simplicity Pattern 4080. I couldn't find any fabric in a light enough blue that wasn't too thin, but I found a blue suiting fabric that felt so soft and more ideal (I didn't want the fabric to be so thin that the red lining was showing through). It's fully lined with a red broadcloth, which I also used for the dickey. I used the pattern for the part of the obi that goes around my waist, but I made the bow on my own without a pattern. The pattern itself doesn't give any instructions on how to wear it accurately, so I found some online tutorials and made some makeshift koshihimo sashes, and then I did the best I could so it'd have that fold below the obi where the band around the collar cuts off (had to do this anyway since the kimono would be too long otherwise).

You can't see them in this picture, but I made her slippers out of fleece, covering a pair of flip flops. The wig was a Punky XL in Pale Blue from Amphigory. I made her red hair piece from the leftover broadcloth covering pieces of craft foam, and it clips into the ponytail in the back. Instead of just pulling it all back into ponytail, I did a half-ponytail so it'd look fluffier (darn those 80s-90s fluffy hairstyles XD).
