Animefest 2012: Korra Groupby *Malindachan

I keep forgetting I cosplayed Mako at Afest. And then I find photos and remember. XD It was a very last minute and low budget costume, but I feel like it turned out...ok? XDDD

I'd been watching The Legend of Korra with my friends over the summer, and we all wanted to cosplay characters from it together. Not all of us were able to finish costumes or coordinate everything at the same time, but I volunteered to be Mako so I could have bro-time with one of my best friends, who is like a sister to me. <3 I styled her Bolin wig out of a black Jareth (from Arda Wigs) that was recycled from our friend's Anri (DRRR) costume. Making the curl in the front was fun. Used leftover wig fibers from other wigs to make the fake hairline and curl.

I used a Blue Steele in Black from Arda wigs, and I used hair that was cut from the bangs to make the fake front hairline. Guess I'll need a new wig for my Young Justice Robin cosplay (haha - another costume I made that I sometimes forget about). The jacket was modified from a Simplicity Pirate Coat pattern (Yeah, that red one!), and I used a grey suiting fabric for the outside of it. The inside is lined in a slightly lighter grey broadcloth. I know the grey is supposed to be significantly lighter, but I got it for free from my broski (and free is good when you're poor, which at the time I was). Also, I did a ton of research on his jacket trim, and the animators can't seem to decide if it's Orange, Red, Brown, or something in-between. I went with orange because I already had, like, 3 packets of the stuff on-hand (I got it ages ago for Dark Signer Carly, but didn't end up using that much of it).

The scarf was a scrap of velvet I had leftover from another costume. I liked how it draped.
The gloves were cheap clearanced gloves from JoAnn's that I chopped up and added bands of black broadcloth around the wrists.
The pants and shoes were from my closet, and I made some very last-minute spats out of leftover grey suiting fabric.

I think I spent less than $15 on this costume. It was awesome. ^______^
