Cosplay in America is a book with photos and interviews of cosplayers from 6 different conventions, but the cosplayers themselves are from all over the country! I've been watching this project grow over the past several months, and it's getting really close to being completed (It'll be released in May). I know for certain
will be selling them at the conventions he's listed to attend on his website, and they might be available online (but I'm not sure if that's official. Might depend on how well the book sells).
I personally think it'd be really cool if it sells well enough that it'd get sold at big name bookstores like Borders or Barnes and Noble, where the entire country would have access too it. There are lots of people out there who don't know what cosplay is, and I think a book like this could help inspire others and remove some of the stereotypes we've been labeled with.
I was looking at some of the photos that were selected for the book and posted on the website, and I was happy to see cosplayers from all sorts of cosplay backgrounds who were smiling and just enjoying themselves. We cosplay for so many reasons, but sometimes it can get so competitive that people loose sight as to what's really important. We choose the characters we cosplay because we admire them, because we want to meet people who share the same interests, because we like the style, and because we want to have fun and show others how much we love those characters.
This book shows what we're capable of, as well as what it is that brings us together. I hope it's a huge success.
