Been wanting to make this since last Fall and I finally got around to it! :3 Her trainer design is my fav. so far.
Was going to get a Snivy, but my talking Pikachu was such a hit that I think I'll just stick to carrying him as a buddy instead. XD
This is just a quick photo we managed to snag today at C2E2 before the sun went down; I'm hoping I'll have an opportunity this summer to take it to Navy Pier for a photoshoot since the location is perfect for it.
The wig was styled with a Chibi and a pack of long wefts in Spanish Brown 050 from Arda Wigs. I styled it very similarly to how most people style Sailor Moon wigs (Antiquity-Dreams has a great tutorial here! [link]
Only real huge difference is that I made the foam bases out of insulation foam that I sanded down, since you can't really find styrofoam already in that shape and size. I also used all the hair from each stub and made 3 tiny braids on each bun to divide them into 3 sections.
A lot of the costume was made from modifying existing stuff. The visor was a pink one from JoAnn's but I re-hemmed the top so it was shorter, and then I glued down craft foam for the white parts. I got the baseball tee online and made the pokeball with pink fabric and heat-n-bond. I zig-zag stitched it around the edge to keep it from peeling, and then painted the black with fabric paint. I had to re-hem the bottom so it'd come up higher and have a curve instead of being straight.
I used pink twill for the bow behind the neck, and it's a weird strap thing that crosses under the shirt and ties in the back with velcro. I didn't want to have to make a whole undershirt if it wasn't going to be seen anyway. XD
The "shorts" were made from a yellow twill. I flared out the leg areas a lot compared to the pattern base I was using. I used a Yoga pants pattern for reference, but it was altered so much that it doesn't resemble the original pattern at all.
Though not seen in this photo, I have black tights and pink socks that I just got from a store, and I have a pair of high-top shoes that I painted with blue and white fabric paints to match the character's. I also had to paint the laces yellow. XD (If I had more time I would have dyed them instead).
I made her pink bag with the same pink twill as the bow and pokeball symbol. I used the pattern for bag "C" from Simplicity 9658 as a base, though I altered the side-seams so they'd come in more as it went from the bottom to the top. I used white vinyl for the lining and details, and black belting for the straps. I stuck a piece of cardboard inside the bottom to make it flat at the base. And it has a zipper in the top. :3
I don't have her watch yet. D: I've been really picky at finding a modify-able base for a decent price (cuz I want it to have a function! XD). I found a good one online, but it's going to take several weeks to ship.
