Description

The #1 thing I wanted to do at Katsucon was get a photo with "The Awakening"/Poseidon statue on the beach. I had been wanting to do it since I started watching SnK/AoT last year and had decided to cosplay from it.

The only time frame I had to do it was early Friday or Saturday morning before work, and Joseph Chi Lin is my hero for offering to take the photo. It was cold. And early. And raining. So I can't thank him enough for doing that for me.

Edit:
Costume construction time!
I made the jacket out of Tobacco Twill with a broadcloth lining. You can see my process via this tutorial I put together: malindachan.deviantart.com/art…
I made the vector for the smaller patches and had them embroidered by a professional. The reason I didn't do the scouting patches was because at the time I was making the costume, it was going to be with a group that included characters that had died early on (so it was better for us all to be trainees so they could be included! :) ). The larger patches were too expensive to make for the group, so I made applique patches for everyone. I still have several sets of the trainee patches available on my Etsy if anyone is interested! www.etsy.com/listing/166680216…
Once those patches are gone, I'm not having any more made. I plan to make scouting ones soon for another group of friends I'm cosplaying with, so expect those possibly in a few months (I think I'll be able to afford getting the larger ones made for those sets too).

I made the shirt using McCall's 4261 as a base, and a tan colored knit fabric. I use interfacing and additional fabric to make a facing for the collar area.

Hip wrap thing was essentially a rectangle of home decor suede that I draped around my hips and sewed some darts into around the top so it'd fit better. Pants were from Wet Seal, boots were from ebay (they came a bit higher originally than I wanted, so I sewed the top hem down a little), and the key was also from ebay.

I made the harness, and it was a pain in the butt. No kidding. Like, almost worse than making Chain Mail. I used leather straps for the whole thing (in addition to several buckles and EVA foam for the back pieces), and it was thin enough for my sewing machine to barely handle, but if I had more time, money, and better equipment then I would have used something sturdier. Depending on how well it works with my gear when I get around to it, I might end up either remaking it or just purchasing one on ebay since they have some decent ones for affordable prices.

Wig was a Jett in Dark Brown from Arda Wigs! :) No trimming or styling necessary besides some blow-drying to tame the bangs how I wanted.
